What shoe size does my child wear by age?

Average US shoe sizes by age: 12-18 months: Size 4-5. 18-24 months: Size 5-6. 2-3 years: Size 6-8. 3-4 years: Size 8-10. 5-6 years: Size 10-12. 7-8 years: Size 12-2. 9-10 years: Size 2-4. 11-12 years: Size 4-6. These are averages; always measure your child's feet for accurate sizing.

How do I measure my child's foot for shoe size?

Measure feet at the end of the day when they're largest. Have child stand on paper, trace around foot while holding pen vertical. Measure from heel to longest toe in inches or centimeters. Add 1/2 inch (1.3cm) for growing room. Measure both feet and use the larger measurement. Most children need shoes replaced every 3-4 months due to growth.

How much room should be in the toe of children's shoes?

Leave 1/2 inch (about a thumb's width) between the longest toe and the end of the shoe. This allows for growth and natural foot movement. Less than 1/4 inch means shoes are too small. More than 3/4 inch may cause tripping. Check fit monthly as children's feet can grow 1/2 size every 2-3 months.

How do I convert kids' shoe sizes between US, UK, and EU?

For toddlers: US size = UK size + 0.5 = EU size - 16. For older kids: US size = UK size + 1 = EU size - 17. Example: US 10 toddler = UK 9.5 = EU 27. US 3 youth = UK 2 = EU 35. Always check brand-specific charts as sizing varies between manufacturers.

How fast do children's feet grow?

Feet grow fastest in the first 3 years, about 1.5mm per month (one size every 2-3 months). Ages 3-6: about 1mm per month (one size every 4-5 months). Ages 6-10: about 0.5-0.75mm per month (one size every 5-6 months). Girls' feet typically stop growing around age 14, boys around age 16.

What's the difference between toddler, little kid, and big kid shoe sizes?

Toddler sizes run 0-10 (ages 0-4). Little Kid sizes run 10.5-3 (ages 4-8). Big Kid/Youth sizes run 3.5-7 (ages 8-12). After youth size 7, children transition to adult sizing. There's overlap between categories, so a size 10 toddler fits differently than a 10 little kid. Always measure rather than relying on age.
